White people are more offended by the fact that they can’t say the N word or have dreadlocks than the fact that they were responsible for slavery , genocide , colonization and the destruction of entire civilizations

thiS IS WHAT IVE BEEN SAYING SINCE SOPHOMORE YEAR
All classrooms DO have fire extinguishers; the issue is more in training teachers to respond in this way in a crisis situation - and teachers should get to be teachers, not action heroes (though over and over again teachers have proven that they are heroes).
That being said, my mom teaches fifth grade and when I told her this idea she said it had merit.
This is the best idea I’ve heard in a long time.
Although, I have to say— No, not all classes in the US have fire extinguishers. I know this from my experience attending 10 different schools in the US (k-12. 2000-2011.) Too many of the one’s we did have didn’t work.
All classrooms should also have an emergency kit for natural disasters, first aide, etc. but the (rather enormous) problem with those is that the students don’t know where it is unless the teacher tells them because there is some potentially dangerous stuff in there sometimes— namely drugs. So if there’s a disaster (shooter, earthquake, could be anything) and the teacher dies or is knocked unconscious— then what?
My point is— just putting the fire extinguisher there isn’t enough; Teachers need training. It needs to be accessible, not hidden under a desk or in a cabinet. Having a disaster kit is worthless if the only person who knows where it is is dead. This is scary shit, but it’s real. It could happen to anyone. As a student and a future teacher I hate that this is something we have to prepare for, but if we have to— let’s do it right.
